Owe Owe Owe, I Did It!

Teaching my children and walking alongside them as they learn is such a joyful privilege. This is especially true as I’ve learned to let go of “normal.” Raising and teaching children with special needs definitely redefines your sense of normal in a hurry! We’re one weird (awesome!) homeschooling family.

For example:

My son was working on his math work: telling time to the 5 minutes. He was noodling one such problem as he continually struck his head with his magic wand saying “owe” repeatedly. I just looked at him. He continued this way for a few minutes. I shrugged and waited him out. After all, he wasn’t complaining, groaning, refusing to work, or having a full on meltdown because he wanted the arrows on the clock to have the same length.

Suddenly, he yelled out “ALL RIGHT!! I DID IT!! I did that problem while saying ‘owe’ over and over again! Did you see that?”

How could I have missed it? He totally cracked me up.

Was his math work so easy that he had to add an extra level of difficulty? Was he trying to keep himself distracted so he could concentrate on the problem at hand? Either idea is totally possible. In any case, I adore my silly mathemagician!
